Ryan Reynolds Dedicates Deadpool & Wolverine to Rob Delaney’s Late Son, Henry Delaney

Ryan Reynolds recently shared a heartfelt tribute to his Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Rob Delaney‘s late son, Henry Delaney, who passed away from a brain tumor at the age of 2 in 2018. In an emotional Instagram post, Reynolds revealed that the highly successful Deadpool sequel, which has become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, features an end credits dedication to Henry.

“If you stayed through the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, you might notice a credit saying, ‘For Henry Delaney,’” Reynolds wrote. He explained that Henry’s passing occurred shortly after the completion of Deadpool 2, in which Delaney starred as Wade Wilson‘s friend, Peter, also known as “Sugarbear.” Reynolds expressed regret that he hadn’t included a tribute to Henry in the 2018 film, but found solace in knowing that even more people would see Henry’s name in the credits of the latest installment. “And now, at long last, father and son are sharing the same screen,” Reynolds added.

Reynolds also praised Delaney’s 2022 memoir, A Heart That Works, calling it an “incredible piece of writing” that explores the complex emotions following Henry’s passing. He shared several photos of himself and Delaney from the sets of the Deadpool films, expressing gratitude for their friendship and Delaney’s willingness to share his grief to help others feel less alone.

Henry Delaney was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after his first birthday in 2016. Despite undergoing surgery to remove the tumor in 2017, the cancer returned, and Henry passed away on Delaney’s birthday in January 2018.

Delaney, who has openly discussed his grief and the journey of writing A Heart That Works, shared in a 2022 interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that the book was initially fueled by anger. However, over time, it transformed into a work centered on love, offering a poignant and personal exploration of loss and resilience.

Reynolds’ tribute underscores the deep bond between the two actors and highlights the importance of remembering and honoring those we’ve lost, even in unexpected places like the end credits of a blockbuster film.
