Emma Roberts Eyes Britney Spears Role: “It’s My True Dream”

Emma Roberts has responded with excitement to the swirling rumors about her possibly portraying pop icon Britney Spears in an upcoming biopic. After Universal Pictures announced plans to adapt Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me, speculation arose about who would take on the challenging role of Spears. Among those endorsing Roberts for the role was Felicia Culotta, Spears’ former longtime assistant, who told TMZ that she believed Roberts would be the perfect fit.
Though no official casting has been confirmed, Roberts is hopeful. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, the 33-year-old actress expressed her desire to step into Spears’ shoes. “I mean, it’s my true dream to play Britney Spears,” Roberts said. “It’s a rumor, but I hope maybe it’ll come true. I mean, I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone and said, ‘I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word.'”
Roberts’ enthusiasm for the role is apparent, as she fondly recalls how Spears’ music played a significant role in her life. “I serenade my son with Britney tunes all the time in the bath,” Roberts shared, calling it “millennial parenting” at its finest.
Released in late 2023, The Woman in Me offers an intimate look at Spears’ rise to stardom, beginning with her days on The Mickey Mouse Club and culminating in her reign as a pop sensation in the late ’90s and early 2000s. The memoir delves into the complex dynamics within Spears’ family and the highly publicized 13-year conservatorship that strained her relationships with her sister Jamie Lynn Spears, mother Lynne Spears, and father Jamie Spears.
The upcoming film adaptation of The Woman in Me is set to be directed by Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights. The project is produced by Marc Platt, the producer behind La La Land. While no release date has been announced, fans are already buzzing about the casting possibilities.
Roberts, who recently announced her engagement to actor Cody John, seems more than ready to channel her inner Britney if given the chance. “I hope the rumor comes true,” she said, leaving fans eager to see if she’ll get to live out her dream on the big screen.
