During Tuesday night’s finale performances on America’s Got Talent, the judges were thoroughly impressed by the season’s top 10 acts, but there was one contestant who stood out and received the most enthusiastic support from Heidi Klum: Richard Goodall, a school janitor from Terra Haute, Indiana. Goodall, who has captivated both the judges and the audience with his powerful covers of ’80s ballads, delivered another stunning performance, this time singing Journey’s “Faithfully.”
Goodall’s emotional delivery had the entire studio on their feet, swaying to the music. The judges were unanimous in their praise, but Klum, who awarded Goodall her Golden Buzzer during his audition, was especially vocal about her admiration. “Richard, I have been faithfully the biggest fan since the very, very first day we met, all the way through this competition,” she said. “You are such an amazing man. You’re so humble and so kind. You’re also a little bit quiet, but not when you are behind that microphone. Then you’re a big rock star!” Klum added with passion, “I want you to win this so bad, Richard!”
Simon Cowell, seated two chairs over from Klum, echoed her sentiments, acknowledging the powerful connection Goodall has with the audience. “I could feel the energy behind me,” Cowell remarked. “From the minute you came on this show, you’ve never crumbled. You’ve risen. And you know what? We all need a hero right now, and you are our hero.”
Howie Mandel, clearly moved by the performance, went further by predicting that Goodall’s performance may very well secure him the show’s $1 million prize. “I think you just sang yourself one million dollars,” Mandel confidently stated.
Goodall’s performance was part of a night filled with fierce competition, as acts like the Hakuna Matata Acrobats, singer Dee Dee Simon, and aerialists Sebastián & Sonia all took the stage in hopes of securing the grand prize. Viewers now have the chance to vote for their favorite act, with voting open until Wednesday morning.
